We all love good film quotes, from the romantic to the ridiculous, there’s a vast array of witty comebacks, emotionally charged rants and bizarre observations. Here are some of the most iconic gems, mixed in with some personal favourites:
“Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore” – The Wizard of Oz (1939)
This really has to be one of the most memorable quotes of all time. Who isn’t immediately transported back to the weird and wonderful Oz and all of it’s adventures?
“Here’s Johnny!” – The Shining (1980)
What do you get when you bring the work Stephen King, Stanley Kubrick and Jack Nicholson together? One of the most terrifying thrillers to have hit the big screen. It’s got creepy twins, tidal waves of blood and Jack Nicholson’s head bursting through the bathroom door. This film was always going to be a winner.
“Mrs. Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me, aren’t you?” – The Graduate (1967)
In all honestly, Mike Nichols’ groundbreaking film has so many quotable moments that it’s hard to choose just one, but since I have to, this will have to be it. Of all his amazing work, The Graduate stands out as one of the most iconic films ever made, breaking boundaries from the score, to the camera angles and experimental shots.
“They call it a Royale with cheese.” – Pulp Fiction (1994)
The exchange between Jules and Vincent in the now infamous car scene has to be one of the best in the history of film. Quite possibly one Samuel L Jackson and John Travolta’s finest hours.
“I just don’t know what I’m supposed to be.” – Lost In Translation (2003)
Sofia Coppola’s masterpiece is jarringly honest and magical in the same breath. Whatever it is that is whispered between Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray during their farewell would probably have made it onto this list, but since we’ll never know, this will have to do.
